The debate around which factors drive learning is ongoing and controversial. Is it an unavoidable truth that assessment drives learning? What are we trying to achieve by assessment in medical education? Is assessment an instructional tool?
These and many other important questions have set the theme for IMEC 2017 “Rethinking Assessment with Purpose in Mind”.
IMEC 2017 is a blend of engaging and interactive sessions that will suit all health care professionals. The conference will start with an inspirational talk from Dr. Malak Al-Thagafi, a Harvard trained physician-scientist, entrepreneur, and public speaker. Born in Makkah with a genetic problem created her very early passion toward medicine and genomics.
The international keynote speaker, Allen Frances, a prominent Professor at Duke University and an outspoken critic of Healthcare. His keynote speech titled “Towards 2030: Medical Education & The Ideal Healthcare System” will analyse and address the Kingdom`s 2030 vision in relation to education and healthcare. The second keynote talk by Prof. Frances, is “Do No Harm!”. This topic will be of interest to all healthcare professionals. It basically states that given a problem, it may be better not to do something, or even to do nothing, than to risk causing more harm than good.
Moreover, targeted multiple assessment workshops for healthcare professionals and trainees will run throughout the conference plus a general track for stand-up medics and a medical competition.
Faculty and trainees are encouraged to submit poster abstracts as it is always interesting to learn of the innovations being introduced in assessment. We promise that there will be something for everyone
